This is early reader non-fiction text covers a day in the life of Lisa Torres, a ballet dancer. It covers her day from practice, to getting ready for her first big solo performance. The photographs nicely compliment the story line. An even though this is a non fiction book, the story line of the text has nice variety and action. The book includes a picture word list to help young readers learn new vocabulary words related to ballet that may be unfamiliar to them.

I think this book, and others like, it help young readers begin to understand professions, and what is involved from the people working in those professions. I liked that the book included Picture Words for the Tier 3 words associated with ballet to help students figure out the meaning of those words. This is a nice option to get children reading books that are different from traditional fiction readers - especially for those children interested in the arts. ( )

I generally like DK books.

They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books.

What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library?

This is not one of my favorites. The pictures are a little too obviously posed and I feel the text is a little *too* simple, that it talks down to kids.

If your child is very interested in dance, go for it, but otherwise I think this one can be skipped. ( )
