There are muscle cars and then there are pumped up special edition muscle cars. Muscle Car Special Editions by Duncan Scott Brown, from CarTech, gives you an in depth look at cars most of us can only dream about. As usual with CarTech books, the pictures are plentiful. I received this book as part of the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for this review. Esta resenha foi escrita no âmbito dos Primeiros Resenhistas do LibraryThing. Duncan Brown and CarTech, Inc. have produced another beautifully illustrated book of classic 'muscle' cars, made by Chevrolet and Pontiac, Oldsmobile/Buick. Ford/Mercury, Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge, and the American Motors Corporation (e.g., SC/Rambler). Too say more without pictures would be a tease. Beautiful book. Esta resenha foi escrita no âmbito dos Primeiros Resenhistas do LibraryThing. Muscle Car: Special Editions (2021) by Duncan Brown. This book fooled me. When I ordered is I thought it was to be about in-depth information on various models of the Big Three muscle cars as they rolled from the factory. I would have been happy with that.Instead this is a look at what car dealers produced from the stock machines rolling out of Detroit. I was much happier and deeper involved in this latter manifestation of the power machines. The cars, and the dealers that produced them, gave rise to great hope in the lowly teen or youthful man (or woman) of what you could do to your own car. Sure, it would be great to have master mechanics and and an almost endless supply of parts and money to invest in you dreams, but there were wonderful ideas to be had just by inspecting them. Also the dealers were more than happy to talk about what they did to the cars, the parts used and the time and trouble involved. And of course they were also more than happy to sell you one built to your specifications if that suited you. In the process dealers across the country saw a great up-tick in sales. The book is broken down into six sections naming some, but not all, dealers who handled Chevys, Pontiacs, Olds and Buicks, Fords and Mercurys, Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodges and finally AMC cars. The dealers span the nation from Dale Chevy in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Ace Wilson’s Royal Pontiac in Royal Oak, Michigan (two dealers near to my location), even Calgary Alberta up in Canada is represented. More than 40 different shops/dealers and corporations are talked about here. Hurst and Shelby get a nod to their aftermarket world also. In each dealer’s section are discussions about the cars that they produced that made their name. And the cars are terrific. There are so many exciting alterations that went into taking stock and making it special. Some of the work is talked about, but mostly it is the cars and the concepts, and not the how-to, that shine. This would make a nice addition to your Car Book collection and it might have the effect of causing some car enthusiasts to doing road trips to these car meccas. The Car Tech “Muscle Car Special Editions” book is a must have for anyone interested in the history of the American muscle car era. It’s a beautiful hardcover book. It’s full of great photographs and advertisements and very well written. The author, Duncan Brown, covered an amazing number of special edition cars from all the major players of the time and included some of the not so well known as well. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
