Eleven thousand years ago, before the seas swallowed the Atlanteans, Poseidon assigned a few chosen warriors to act as sentinels for humans in the new world. There was only rule-desiring them was forbidden. But rules were made to be broken...Riley Dawson is more than a dedicated Virginia Beach social worker. She's blessed with a mind link that only Atlanteans have been able to access for thousands of years. Being an "empath" may explain her wistful connection to the roiling waves of the ocean, the sanctuary it provides, and the sexual urges that seem to emanate from fathoms below...Conlan, the High Prince of Atlantis, has surfaced on a mission to retrieve Poseidon's stolen trident. Yet something else has possessed Conlan: the intimate emotions-and desires-of a human. Irresistibly drawn to the uncanny beauty, Conlan soon shares more than his mind. But in the midst of a battle to reclaim Poseidon's power, how long can a forbidden love last between two different souls from two different worlds?… (mais)

I enjoyed "Atlantis Rising". It was action packed, suspenseful, and romantic. So much goes on in this first book. We have vampires & were-critters living among humans out and about. We have Atlanteans sworn to protect humans, but they must stay unknown to the world. We have the warriors and their priest on a quest. Conlan the high prince and his 7 warriors are all supposed to marry Atlantean virgin's, but we have Conlan who falls in love with a very unique kind of human Riley.
Great Read! I plan to read the rest of the series. ( )

Conlan, is the high prince of Atlantis and soon to be crowned King. He has recently returned from being tortured and captured. Now he has returned to his home, but still feels shattered on the inside. When the Tritan of Poseidon goes missing, he and his team must go after those that stole it, and travel up above the sea to the humans. Riley Dawson, is a empath and a social worker, and even though there are times that she loves her job, at this moment she hates this job. She has a case where someone gets murdered and there was nothing she could do to stop it. So feeling like she is suffocating, she goes to the sea ,where she will feel peace and be at calm, but then she gets attacked by three men and is saved by a gallant warrior, who is unlike anything she has ever seen. Beautiful, powerful and he shares a emotional bond to her. He can hear her thoughts and emotions, and she has no idea what to make of him. Even though Riley is human, Conlan feels a connection to this woman the likes of which he has never known. He knows that there is something uniquely special about this fragile woman who has wormed her way into his soul. When Conlan and Riley get thrown together, and battling for their lives, they get taken on a adventure dealing with werewolves, vampires, the powers of the gods, and a powerful love and passion that will sweep them up....

I have heard so many amazing reviews about this series, and considering how much I am a fan of mythology and especially when you mix it in with a steamy romance, I just can't resist for too long. So I decided to try Atlantis Rising at Audible, which I got a good deal for. Atlantis Rising is the first installment in the Warriors of Poseidan and captivated me from the first moment. The voice of the narration is Joshua Swanson, and at first I had a hard time with his inflections, but after a little while, I started to really like him quite a bit. There were some of the voices of the other characters I didn't like too much, but the main characters and narration of the story, he did a tremendous job at. There were many times I just wanted to stop everything that I was doing just to listen to this, but alas I have responsibilities, so there were times I had to push pause. From the first, I was captivated by this richly filled plot and the connection between Riley and Conlan was instantaneous, there was no long wait period, it happened instantly and their relationship only gets stronger the more they are around each other. It starts out pretty intense, on both sides of Riley and Conlan. We see Conlan after returning from being a prisoner, and then the story takes us to Riley who is fighting a inner battle of her own. They meet when they least expect to meet their future soul mate, but stranger things have happened. The story takes us along as the plot thickens, and events go from intense to mind blowing action. There is quite a lot of action that goes on, as well as mystery and intrigue, and there were many times I had no idea where the story was going to go next. It had a surprise at every corner, some good and some bad.

The Characters in this story were such a delight to get to know. I feel like with a audio book, you get to know them more. I felt like there was so much emotion portrayed in the narration, it almost felt like you were actually in the story, and it leaves you with a sense of reality, when it really is just fiction--much to my disappointment LOL. Conlan, is the leader of his people, and has gone after the Tritan which has been stolen. When he goes to retrieve he comes across his mate. Conlan is very Alpha once he meets her, he is very possessive and commanding, and has the stereotype of a prince. However there was more to Conlan than met the eye. He had many vulnerabilities as well, he had recently suffered a trauma and so Conlan comes across as the "Tortured Male" type, but the author does a fantastic job of putting this character in. Its always a good thing when the characters seem real and human. Riley is a unique heroine, and I loved her character quite a bit. In the beginning you see how vulnerable she is at times, but you also see the inner strength that shines. She isn't weak or passionless, she just hides it better than most. Riley has some special talents, and is a empath, We have the introduction to her sister, who is so opposite from Riley it isn't even funny. Riley is tender hearted, compassionate, and loving. She can fight if the situation calls for it. The relationship between Riley and Conlan is complex and yet has a simplicity to it too. I enjoyed the journey they take us on, and the romance is sweet and full of sensuality.

Overall I couldn't help but fall head over heels in love with Atlantis Rising. There was so much depth and characterization packed in this book!! It was a blast going on this adventure and learning of this world that Day has created. I just got the second book in the series, so I can't wait to read Ven's story. Atlantis Awakening here I come! Woo Hoo! Alyssa Day has certainly caught my attention with an empathic Riley Dawson and a hot group of Poseidon’s warriors that are on a treasure hunt, of sorts. I know I’m all tingly and ready to go. lol

Her grief called to him. It would not be denied. He must got to her.

The mental telepathic dialogue had me cracking up, so I put a smile on my face and prepared myself for a fun, sexy read. I mean, she’s an empath and he’s a high prince, the first of Poseidon’s warriors, so what could possibly go wrong.

“You’re not going to drink my blood or rip my arms off, are you? Because my day has really sucked, and I’m so not up for that,” she said…

Barrabas, a powerful vampire, felt the disturbance caused by their meeting. Oh man, so cool. Water warriors and blood sucking Vampires. What more could I want? I am hooked and happy.

Everything Conlan does is for Atlantis, so denying his overwhelming desire for Riley, who is not only a forbidden human, but also an empath, literally brought him to his knees. Conlan and his warriors were tasked with protecting the humans from shapeshifters and vampires, and were clearly from the Land of Hunk.

I am feeling upbeat, having fun, sharing Conlan and Riley’s internal dialogue and lovin ‘ every minute of it. And now we find out why they are above ground…Poseidon’s Trident has been stolen. Conlan could lose his kingdom if they don’t recover it.

“You’re not a vampire, because you’ve got a heartbeat,” she said. “Are you a shapeshifter? What kind of furry are you going to get?” He laughed. “I’m not going to turn furry, brave one. I am nothing you know.”

Conlan knows that empaths don’t exist, yet here’s Riley. He also knows that the soul meld doesn’t exist, yet how to explain the sparks between them.

Well, Alyssa, you drew me in, kept me riveted to the pages, worrying and fretting, laughing and smiling, never letting me go. The action kept the story flowing as I devoured the words. The world created was full of wonder and I am so happy to have been able to visit Atlantis and meet all these fabulous characters that escaped from the mind of Alyssa Day.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Atlantis Rising by Alyssa Day.
