First, a lot of the materials she's using are thermoset plastics: Tyvek, fun foam, shrink-plastic, plastic protectors. She's then heating them with irons, heat guns, etc. This process releases some of the chemicals in the plastics into the air. Are these chemicals harmful? No one knows because no one has tested these products with the idea that individuals would stand over them and melt them. If you're avoiding using polymer clay because you're worried about what you're breathing, you probably don't want to make a regular habit of using these materials with heat.
Second, while she explains pretty clearly how to make the embellishment, she gets very sketch about how to attach the embellishment to the projects. The more I work with mixed-media the more I'm conscious that attaching things in a way that is durable is tricky and non-obvious. This book isn't going to help you with that. ( )
