Take a trip to the beloved supernatural town of Mystic Bayou in this brilliantly funny new stand-alone novella! Charlotte McBee knows she's in for a challenge when she accepts a job as midwife for a dragon and a phoenix shifter. Being a fairy herself, it isn't the supernatural world that scares her. It's the thought of delivering a giant metal dragon's egg, which has her gritting her teeth in pain for poor Jillian, the anxious mother-to-be. While preparing for the big event, a handsome town resident catches her eye. Leonard is kind, charming, and a little bit mysterious. He's also suffering from a highly unusual condition brought on by an ancient fairy curse, and he's too wary of Charlotte to allow her to get close. Will love overcome fear before the end of her assignment?… (mais)

One Fine Fae
4 Stars

As the birth of Jillian and Bael's baby draws near, Charlotte McBee, the fairy midwife, arrives in the small town of Mystic Bayou to help with the delivery, and also comes to the aid of Jillian's assistant, Leonard, whose entire family is living under a curse.

This novella provides a quick update on the goings-on in Mystic Bayou now that the supernatural community has been outed to the world. All of the couples from the previous installments put in an appearance and their close camaraderie and teasing are delighful. Zed, of course, steals the show like always.

Charlotte and Leonard are an adorable couple and their romance is very sweet. Leonard awkward clumsiness is cute and the way the town embraces Charlotte is wonderful.

Lokking forward to the next full book in the series.

I will lump all six books of the Mystic Bayou series into one review because they follow the same charming formula that Molly Harper tends to use. The similarities between the stories don’t harm them, as long as you go into each knowing exactly what you will get. There will be a meet-cute, followed by lots of sexual tension, a mystery solved together with the requisite found family, and happily ever after for our star couple. Throw in a dragon, a were-bear, selkies, a dryad, a witch, and a gnome, and you have quite the community. I enjoyed every minute of listening to the series. ( )

So I thought I’d closed my Audible account last year, but it turns out, nope, I didn’t. One of their emails got through the spam filter last week and informed me that I had 12 credits sitting there. Of course, I had to use them all before I shut the account for good, so I went on a bit of a spree and bought a bunch of titles, and I made sure Molly Harper’s books accounted for at least a few.

One Fine Fae is, really, not a 4 star read – it’s closer to a 3.5 star, but I think Amanda Ronconi does such a fabulous job with the narration of these that she gets the .5 star bump. Jonathan Davis narrates the male POV and I rather wish he didn’t. He reads awkwardly, often mangling sentences with his oddly placed pauses, and he’s terrible at female voices.

The story itself is about what you’d expect from a novella: short and shallow, relying on established characters for any real depth while the newbies have their meet cute and establish a relationship. There’s no tension, or plot, other than the birth of Gillian’s daughter, who is half dragon and half phoenix, and that wasn’t at all tense.

All in all, just a light and amusing way to kill a few hours while driving and ironing. ( )

This was fine, but mostly because it’s pure fan service. Not a good place for new readers to start, doesn’t stand alone at all. ( )

So, I bought this and when filing glanced at first page and before I knew it ..it was 1:00 a.m. and I was finished reading it. Now I find myself going to book 1 in the series. So much for best laid plans and spending the month of August reading everything by and about Cecil Beaton. The damn book grabbed me on the first page. I enjoyed it a lot and as I said, now find myself remembering why I bought so many Molly Harper books and also find myself wanting to reread them and buy the missing ones. ( )
