Who doesn't love a Hades and Persephone retelling?! I do, I could have done with a little less smut but it wasn't horribly done. I love the Greek Gods in this story and of course the romance/spice. ( )

I found this book to be quite disappointing and annoying.

It's a shame, really— Katee could have changed their names and turned this book into a mafia romance, given how poorly Hades & Persephone were represented.

The portrayal of Hades, specially, fell short for me; he lacked the depth and darkness that I associate with the character. The absence of actual Gods, reduced to mere Titles without any divine powers, or anything at all, was a letdown. Overnight, Persephone went from meeting Hades, locking herself in the bathroom and sleeping in a tub, to jumping right into the smut—just like that, in a matter of hours. Where was the character arc?

The storyline felt uninspiring, merely serving as a vehicle for the smut. The characters lacked depth and personality, leaving me indifferent towards their stories.

Overall, I'm left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed by the lack of substance in this book. ( )

As a lover of Greek mythology this book intrigued me immediately and definitely did not disappoint. Neon Gods is a refreshingly new take on the Hades and Persephone mythos. We all think we know the story of how Hades kidnapped Persephone taking her into the Underworld, but what if that is not exactly how it happened. That is the story that Neon Gods presents readers and it is absolute bliss to read.

Featuring a Pantheon of "Gods" that rule over New Olympus in such a way that leaves no doubt who is in charge but what happens when their plans do not go as they expect. What will happen when the "society goddess" destined to be the new Hera decides she does not want to be Hera and runs right into the arms of the Lord of the Underworld, Hades.

When Persephone is presented with her surprise engagement to the current Zeus, she panics and makes a run for it. She ends up being chased through the night straight to the Underworld and into the waiting arms of Hades. In order to get what they both want, freedom for Persephone and revenge for Hades, the two of them come up a plan that will bring with it more than they could have ever imagined. Will they be ready for it or will it break them apart?

Getting to know Persephone and Hades was such a fabulous experience, after reading the advanced copy I went back and listened to the audiobook upon its release and it was the perfect way to experience this book. Neon Gods is presented in a dual POV format and so each chapter is narrated by what I can only describe as the perfect person to bring these characters alive.

This book features characters modeled after the original Greek Pantheon but they do not have powers and are presented in such a way that they are not related in the same ways they are in the original myths. So if you are a diehard Greek Mythology purist then you will need to set aside most of what you know about the Greek gods, this series uses the original myths as inspiration and a guide but definitely uses a good amount of artistic license to present a uniquely refreshing take on the Hades and Persephone story.

THIS IS A SERIES I WISH I COULD FORGET JUST SO THAT I COULD EXPERIENCE READING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!! ( )

quick easy read. loved that every time someone said God it was plural. Enjoyed the sex parts but wanted more. They seemed weirdly abbreviated like I felt like I skipped a paragraph or two. ( )
