"New York Times bestselling author Karen White weaves a story of friendship past and present, love, and betrayal that moves between war-torn London during the Blitz and the present day. London, 1939. In a city on the brink of war, beautiful and ambitious Eva Harlow and her best friend, sweet Southerner Precious Dubose, are young models on the rise--and a duo as close as sisters. But when Eva falls in love with Graham St. John, an aristocrat and former pilot, she finds herself slipping into a web of intrigue, spies, and secrets. Her journey will test the limits of her friendship with Precious--and the mettle of all Britons as the Blitz devastates their world, snatching in an instant all they hold dear. Eighty years later, in 2019, journalist Maddie Warner, whose life has been marked by the tragic loss of her mother, comes to London to interview Precious. Maddie has been careful to close herself off to love, but in Precious she recognizes someone whose grief rivals her own--and whose wisdom may teach Maddie how to navigate her relationship with Colin, Precious's shy and handsome surrogate nephew. But first Maddie will have to unravel Precious's many secrets--the unremembered acts of glory, love, and betrayal that have haunted her for more than fifty years"--… (mais)

Yawn. Just another dual-timeline WWII historical fiction/romance mix with a predictable twist at the end. ( )

REVIEW
The Last Night in London is a riveting historical fiction novel of friendship, love and betrayal. Karen White’s beguiling writing keeps readers engaged with strong female characters, intriguing dialogue, and a multi-layered plot.

The two time frames of the story, 1939 and 2019, are creatively intertwined. Readers will appreciate finesse of the secrets and suspense throughout the book, This dramatic wartime story is simply impossible to put down.

White is a New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty-five novels. Her most recent standalone novels include Dreams of Falling (2018) and The Night the Lights Went Out (2017).

Maddie has returned to England to write a piece about her friend’s 99 year old grandmother, Precious. Precious was a model in London prior to WWII and she has a lot of stories to tell. But she is hiding a tremendous secret.

This novel is set in two different time periods, WWII and present day. The present day is the best because I love Maddie and Colin. However, Precious during WWII has some pretty unique intrigue.

This is a bit of a slow burn. I generally do not enjoy a slow burn. But this story just kept getting better and better. The build up to the secret and the tension between Colin and Maddie just kept me coming back for more.

I know I am not supposed to quote a novel until I compare it to the final copy. However, this book has a quote I will not soon forget. “Whoever said time heals all wounds is a liar. Grief is like a ghost, isn’t it? Haunting our reflections.”

Need a book you will not soon forget…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review. ( )
