In dit deel begint elk hoofdstuk met een proloog waarbij terug gegaan wordt naar een gebeurtenis in Mexico dat 500 jaar geleden heeft plaatsgevonden. Het kostte mij even tijd om verband te leggen met Lady Mechanika die naar Spanje is geroepen om de zoon van een baron te beschermen tegen veronderstelde demonen. Maar op het moment dat ik het doorhad, werden deze prologen overbodig.

Waar ik ook wat moeite mee had, was de tekenstijl van Brian Ching die het voor zijn rekening heeft genomen om het hoofdverhaal weer te geven. Meerdere malen vroeg ik af naar wie ik nu eigenlijk aan het kijken was en herkende Lady Mechanika niet altijd. Niet dat de tekeningen niet oké zijn maar het verschilt toch wel behoorlijk van de stijl van Joe Benitez die voorgaande delen heeft getekend.

Mr. Lewis wil niets meer met Lady Mechanika te maken hebben na de gebeurtenissen uit het vorige deel. Dus helaas heb ik zijn originele invallen dit keer moeten missen.
Dokter Littleton wil Lady Mechanika helpen met het vinden van haar oorsprong en vraagt om een bloedsample. Dit vindt zij ongemakkelijk en dat snapte ik wel. Ik had toen nog niet door dat dit een opzet was voor wat er verder in dit avontuur ging gebeuren. Want uiteindelijk komt Lady Mechanika terug met een bloedsample van de wezens die zij ontmoet heeft en een van haarzelf om te vergelijken. Spannend!

Het zevende deel is inmiddels ook uit maar helaas heb ik daar geen e-boekversie van kunnen vinden. Ik blijf nog even verder speuren. ( )

What a fantastic entry in the series! I was growing slightly weary of Lady Mechanika's never-ending quest to find her origins, but Sangre focuses on largely stand-alone adventure--with vampires! The story is exciting and the art is as exquisite as ever. I loved it so much I bought a copy as soon as it was available.

Series Info/Source: This is the 6th volume in the Lady Mechanika series. I bought this graphic novel.

Story (5/5): In this volume Lady Mechanika is called to protect a Baron’s son from demons but quickly finds out it’s a creature of another type that she has to worry about. I loved the back story and the inclusion of other supernatural creatures. I also really enjoyed how this tied into Lady Mechanika’s quest to find out about her own past.

Characters (5/5): I continue to really love Lady Mechanika as a character and enjoyed a lot of the new characters we meet as well.

Setting (5/5): I continue to love this steampunk London setting. This time we also get to venture outside of London into the countryside.

Writing/Drawing Style (5/5): I love the dark, detailed Victorian illustration style used in this series. There is so much detail and the pages are just so beautiful to look at. The story is very well done and easy to follow as well. I love that there was again a contained mystery but that the main storyline featuring Lady Mechanika’s mysterious past also made progress.

My Summary (5/5): Overall I enjoyed this a ton; I love where the story is going and enjoyed all the mystery and action. There are some new and intriguing supernatural creatures introduced here and the illustration remains top notch. I am really looking forward to the next volume in this series. ( )

I love, love, love this series. Strong female characters, intriguing story-lines, dynamic artwork.
Like the title says, this volume is all about blood, as in family, vampires and human sacrifices.
