Reclaim your power from narcissists, manipulators, and other toxic people. If you're a highly sensitive person, or identify as an "empath," you may feel easily overwhelmed by the world around you, suffer from "people-pleasing," experience extreme anxiety or stress in times of conflict, or even take on the emotions of others. Due to your naturally giving nature, you may also be a target for narcissists and self-centered individuals who seek to exploit others for their own gain. So, how can you protect yourself? In The Highly Sensitive Person's Survival Guide to Dealing with Toxic People, you'll learn evidence-based skills grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help you recognize and shut down the common manipulation tactics used by toxic people, such as gaslighting, stonewalling, projection, covert put-downs, and love bombing. You'll also discover targeted tips to protect yourself from the five main types of toxic people: - Garden-variety boundary-steppers - Crazymakers and attention-seekers - Emotional vampires - Narcissists - Sociopaths and psychopaths Finally, you'll learn how to heal from toxic or narcissistic abuse, and find strategies for establishing healthy boundaries and a strong sense of self. If you're an HSP who is ready to take a stand against the toxic people in your life, this book has everything you need to survive and thrive. Highly sensitive people (HSPs) and those who identify as empaths are natural targets for narcissists, emotional vampires, and other controlling people due to their giving nature. The Highly Sensitive Person's Guide to Dealing with Toxic People is a practical road map to help HSPs identify and deal effectively with toxic people-at work, in the family, in friendships, or in romantic relationships.… (mais)

The Highly Sensitive Peron's Guide to Dealing with Toxic People is a well written well researched gem of a book. Packed full of caring words that can help you realize that you deserve better than toxic people throw at you as well as practical advice on how to heal and how to handle numerous situations that may occur when breaking ties with the toxic people in your life. I really needed this book and I cannot recommend it enough. So many of us try to push through a life filled with one or sometimes several toxic people that hinder our happiness and growth. It's time to put an end to that so please read it and spread it around to everyone you know so we can all begin reclaiming the lives we deserve to live! ( )

I’m not one to read self-help books as my only other experience with one (The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fu*k) did not go very well. When I received the ARC of this book, I expected to struggle with it and even DNF it but it was beyond my expectations. Arabi has tackled the topic very effectively and has used scientific/psychological facts in such an easy language that even a person with no background in these subjects would be able to understand everything. She has also included examples of previous researches done in the area in order to make the phenomena more comprehensible.
Arabi also busts the belief that toxicity only occurs in romantic relationships and goes on to cover all the bases from toxic parents to relatives to friends to co-workers/employers to spouses and everyone in-between. She provides insights into different types of toxic people in a relatable way and makes you wonder if you have been ignoring red flags in any of your relationships. Especially if you’re someone who is sensitive to other people’s feelings, feel a compulsive need to fix others’ problems or get effected by even the slightest changes in their mood/behaviour etc., then this book is a must-read. It clarifies the fact that HSPs don’t just overreact to everyday stuff, it is their genetic trait and is a scientifically proved phenomenon.
Another interesting thing about it is that the author has included a number of reflective questions and quizzes in order to make you better understand your own personality type and help you uncover if you have been a victim of toxic manipulation, narcissism or any such behaviour. Arabi not only highlights the problems but also provides strategies to resolve them in an efficient way. She provides tools to help HSPs curb their destructive habits and build healthy boundaries in order to deal with emotional predators.
The book is remarkably detailed and yet concise. The author has not dragged or overlooked anything and validated all her arguments with scientific research. She has covered everything from emotional to physical abuse and childhood trauma to adult relationship issues, the tactics used by toxic people (sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists etc.) how to deal with them and how to recover from trauma, in a well-organized way. 100% recommended for everyone who has ever felt misunderstood or abused in any way.
