This book is .a light hearted read. This book will be relatable to any child that has a pet. The theme of the book is unconditional love. Even though Marley messes up countless times, the family loves him just as he is. ( )

This book is a realistic fiction novel and has cute illustrations! The story is about a puppy named Marley who is always getting into trouble. Marley tries to be good, but everything he does is wrong. One day, Baby Louie climbs to the top of the refrigerator and Marley saves him from falling. The family is overjoyed that Marley finally did something good! This story is a fun read and can be enjoyed by anyone! ( )

This book is about a family who adopts a dog named Marley. The family loves Marley, but he keeps getting into trouble around the house. Eventually, the parents decide to put him up for adoption but no one wants him. One day, the mother hears Marley barking. Right before she's about to yell at him, she realizes the baby is climbing the fridge and Marley was letting her know. The family decides to keep the dog, and he's finally a "good dog!" 'I would read this to a kindergarten or first grade class (5-7 years old). A classmate read this book to me in my advanced language and literacy methods class at Pierce College.

I loved this book because of the point of view and how relatable it is. The point of view is from the family but it also puts in Marley (the dog's) thoughts. This makes the story funny and enjoyable to read. I also like how it is relatable, a lot of people grow up with dogs and have probably gone through similar things with their pets. The main lesson that is taught in this book is patience. ( )

In this lively, if over-the-top, picture-book adaptation, Grogan puts a fictional spin on his Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog (see Marley: A Dog Like No Other, reviewed below), placing the irrepressible Lab in a family that includes parents, a tow-headed girl and a cherubic baby boy with "a giant, droopy diaper and a thumb that rarely left his mouth" (in reality, Grogan and his wife adopted Marley before they had children). Cowdrey's (Frosty the Snowman) sweetly sentimental pictures chronicle Marley's growth from pint-size pup to large-scale pooch—and even bigger troublemaker. Kids will chuckle over the dog's nonstop naughtiness, as his head and front paws disappear in the toilet ("He drank what was in his bowl. He drank what wasn't"), he crashes through a screen door and climbs onto the microwave to reach a chocolate cake perched atop the fridge. After Marley snacks on the couch cushions, creating an "indoor snowstorm" of feathers, Mommy declares, "That dog has got to go!" But the nimble pet redeems himself when he once again makes his way to the top of the fridge—this time to rescue the baby, whom he gets hold of by his overlarge diapers. In a complete narrative break, Marley dances in celebration, musing, "Finally, I did something right!" Youngsters familiar with mischievous canines may most appreciate this playful portrait. Ages 3-8. (May)

PreS-Gr 2—In this picture-book adaptation of Grogan's Marley & Me (HarperCollins, 2005), family life is never the same once Daddy brings home a honey-colored Lab. The trouble-prone pup swallows paychecks, pulls a turkey out of the oven, and creates a sofa-stuffing "snowstorm." When Marley's antics finally become too much to handle, his owners place an ad: "Big Yellow Dog—-a little crazy but with a pure heart. Free to good home." In the end, Marley redeems himself by saving baby Louie from a fall. Cowdrey's winsome color illustrations humorously capture this goofy dog in all of his havoc-wreaking glory. Children will enjoy adding their own admonishments to "Bad dog, Marley!"—Linda Ludke, London Public Library, Ontario, Canada
