Dinny 's father was drag racing when he was killed. Now Dinny is left with his brow beaten mother and a disillusioned older brother called Carl. Carl starts hanging around with a group of very shifty looking men and Dinny does some research and discovers that they are white supremacists with links to drug dealing and violent crime. At the same time, he goes on midnight outings with a new kid from school - exploring drains under the city and graffiting messages on the concrete. But the gang that carl has got himself mixed up in starts getting more violent and Dinny is pulled into their sinister world.
