It carries the two storylines from previous books, while adding a new storyline to the mix that helps solve answers from previous books. I enjoyed it, and even thought Janes Colby was going to be alive at one point! ( ) Meh. Maybe if I hadn't jumped straight from the first Colby story to this one I might have been more interested, but this just didn't catch me. The romance was fine, and characterization was OK (though some of it felt a little shortcut, as in she was reminding people about previously-established characters, not introducing them. That's part of why I think it might have been better if I'd read more of the series). But the problems just kept piling in, and by the third or fourth disaster it was too much. Murder, second personality coming out, that person accused of murder (and maybe the other personality did it), records of an affair, mysterious warnings - the impossible fingerprints would have done me in if I were still hanging on that long. Oh yeah, hiding stuff from the police. And the baby hanging fire. And... just too much. Happily ever after, of course, it is a romance; most of the mystery subplots reasonably happily resolved as well. Though the perpetrator was another thing hard to swallow - all that? Nothing wrong with it except being the culmination (though not end) of a series, and trying to tie together stuff that I suspect has been foreshadowed throughout. But not my cup of tea. I do have some other Colby stories, and maybe I'll revisit it after I've read some more. The short story at the end is - amusing. Nothing to the story (girl goes to party & talks & dances with one guy all night - fini) but funny if you've just been reading Colby and realize what happened. Poor Lucas. Wonder if he ever claimed his dance? sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
Victoria Colby-Camp is stunned by the murder of a Chicago police detective who had close ties to her family and her private investigations agency. She decides there's only one man tough and objective enough to clear her name and the agency's reputation. With the keen instincts of a professional, Daniel Marks begins digging into Victoria's past, and into that of her long-dead husband...whose last days could be the key to the case. Daniel reluctantly takes on an unofficial partner, Emily Hastings, the daughter of the murdered cop--a woman determined to find her father's killer. Emily finds evidence linking her father to Victoria's late husband, as well as discovering the treachery and madness that nearly destroyed Victoria's son, Jim. And as the truth begins to emerge, it becomes clear that a ruthless Colby enemy wants certain secrets to stay buried.... Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
