He struggles with his difference and his inability to fly. He tries and tries again but is not successful. After finding another sad animal, orangutan, he gives him a hug and makes him feel better. He realizes that his wings are good for something, giving hugs. This story was so sweet and cute and had a good message about accepting our differences and realizing our own strengths. Annual Goodreads Choice Awards reading project: Read all the Picture Book nominees! (19 of 20) There's an allegory for people with disabilities in this tale of a bird whose wings are too long to fly. But aside from a throwaway gag with a worm, it is not particularly interesting or funny. I'm not a hugger, so this may work better for people into that whole human contact thing. Bernard the bird is born with extra long wings: wings that he finds make it impossible to fly, try as hard as he might. The illustrations of Bernard and his extra long wings (which are a beautiful shade of lilac) are adorable! I especially like the illustrations of the things Bernard comes up with to attempt to rectify the situation with his long wings. Bernard eventually figures out a fantastic use of his long wings (see title for a clue) AND he figures out a way to fly. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Bernard isn't like other birds. His wings are impossibly long, and try as he might, he just can't seem to fly. He's left wondering what his wings are good for ... if they're even good for anything at all. But a chance encounter with a dejected orangutan leads Bernard to a surprising discovery: that maybe what makes him different is actually something to be embraced.
