The Royal Engineers laid the foundations for much of British Columbia. Between 1858 and 1863, they planned towns, surveyed land, settled disputes, diverted rivers, produced maps, established the international boundary and built astonishingly long-lasting trails and roads. This lively account of their work and travels in the province also describes where many examples of the Engineers' work can still be found today.
