Fiction. Mystery. HTML:A famous fiddler has been kilt. A magic garden's left to wilt. Does Fiona Knox's father hold the guilt? Will florist Fiona's blood be spilt?
World-famous fiddle player Barley McFee arrives in blustery Bellewick, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, for a grand homecoming concert organized by jeweler Bernice Brennan. Fiona Knox, owner of the Climbing Rose Flower Shop, is starting to regret volunteering to help with the concert. Bernice is an exacting taskmaster, and Fiona has enough tension dealing with her parents, who have traveled from Tennessee to visit Fi and her younger sister, Isla, and to reveal a secret about Fi's birth. But when Barley is found dead in his trailer during the concert's intermission, and his death is shockingly tied to Fiona's father, Fiona discovers there are more secrets surrounding her family than she realized.
Much to the chagrin of handsome Neil Craig, Chief Inspector of the County Aberdeen Police, Fiona delves into the case to clear her father's name. To make matters worse, Fiona learns that Duncreigan, the magical garden that she inherited from her godfather, is dying. At some point during the concert, someone broke into the garden and cut the centuries-old climbing rose—the source of the garden's magic—from the standing stone.
The stakes are higher than ever and Fiona could lose all that she's grown unless she's able to dispel this terrible curse and dig up the truth—fast.

Secrets that have been kept from Fiona are about to be exposed in this installment of the Magical Garden Mysteries. She knows a bit about her past, but she will soon find out more. Her parents have arrived in Scotland for a visit. Also in Scotland, to play a concert, is a famous fiddler who grew up in this small fishing village. Unfortunately, during an intermission in the concert, the fiddler dies in his trailer. Somehow, her father and the fiddler are connected, and now her dad is suspected in the death of the fiddler. Adding to Fiona’s stress is her sister and her sister’s almost fiancé. But her greatest problem is the garden that has been entrusted to her care. It was vandalized, and is now nearly dead, and she must figure out how to bring the garden and its magic back to life. This wonderfully entertaining mystery is filled with Scottish imagery, and peopled with delightful characters. It’s a well-written story, and it is part of an equally well-written and imaginative series. ( )

Utterly thrilled to get an advanced copy of this book. I've come to really love this magical garden and Scottish town. In this book, we get to meet Fiona's parents and delve deep into the family secrets that have been hinted at the last couple of books. Nice to see Fiona not be a suspect for once and I was surprised by who the murderer turned out to be while seeing in retrospect how it could be.

Really though, the murder investigation is really just a vehicle to talk about family and legacies and that is where this book really shines. And with this basis, this is my favourite book in the series yet. Can't wait for more! ( )

Second in the series set in Scotland with Fiona Knox, owner of a flower shop and caretaker of the Magic Garden. Fiona's 'gift' is the ability to see the future in dreams or, sometimes, when she touches the stone set in the garden. This time her dreams foretell of a boat fire. However, she is also helping the town host the concert of a famous fiddle player who was born and raised in Bellewick, and anticipating the arrival of her parents for a two-week stay. When the fiddler is murdered there are suspects aplenty. I enjoy Fiona and Craig, but Fiona's sister and boyfriend are a tougher sell. The murder was handled well and I enjoyed learning more about the town, Fiona's family, and Fiona's powers. I hope there will be more of this series. ( )

A Magic Garden series is one of my favorite cozy mystery. Mums and Mayhem is book #3, but can be read as a stand alone.

Barley McFee, world famous fiddle player returned to Bellewick, Aberdeenshire Scotland for a homecoming concert. He was late to perform and was found dead in his tour bus by Fiona Knox, the new Keeper and owner of the magic garden from Nashville, Tennessee. Who would want the guy dead? If that wasn't bad enough the next morning Fiona discovered her Duncreigan magical garden was dying by an intruder who cut the centuries old climbing rose from the menhir which is the heart of the garden.

This is a nice break from thrillers I often read - a fun and light mystery, scones and chai.
Flower shop/magical garden/Scottish Fold/Scotland.

Mums & Mayhem is the third book in the Magic Garden Mystery series. I really love this series and look forward to each new book! I like the characters, the setting and the premise of a magical garden passed down in a family.

I enjoyed this newest visit to Bellewick. Fiona Knox finds herself investigating the death of a famous fiddler player to clear her father's name. And, someone breaks into the magic garden, threatening to end its magic. I was glued to every word from start to finish -- there's a lot going on in this story! The plot is engaging and the storyline is perfectly paced. There is a lot going on, but it doesn't muddle up the main plot line. There is also some good character development in this newest story. I can't wait for the next book!! This series never disappoints me!

**I voluntarily read a review copy of this book from Crooked Lane Books. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.** ( )
