WW2, Hungarian Jews, Auschwitz, Sydney, Israel - An interesting historical novel, based on a true story. The author obviously knows her history - however, at times I found this a bit long winded and just wanted her to move it along. ( ) This is the first book I have read written by Diane Armstrong though I note she has written both fiction and non-fiction. A Jewish journalist Miklos Nagy attempts to save thousands of Hungarian Jews from death camps. Years later from Sydney in 2005 a young woman departs on a journey which will take her to Budapest, and on to Israel in search of her grandmother's background, and perhaps to uncover why it is that her grandmother will never speak of her past. Her journey is to reveal as much about herself as it is about her grandmother and those she was connected to. I found this book hard to put down in place, and found it a compelling and believable story, with beautifully written passages describing, particularly the culture, the customs and the magic of Israel. A lovely read. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
