Well, this book was not what I was expecting at all!
Summer Rayne Oakes is an environmental scientist & celebrated houseplant enthusiast. Essentially, she's the lady with over 1000 plants in her Brokklyn flat (I think it's safe to say she played a big part in the houseplant craze that keeps on going).
I liked this book up to a point. I should start by saying that I actually wasn't looking for information on how to get my plants to love me because quite frankly, they already do! Which is good because there wasn't really much information on that particular subject & the two chapters that were devoted to it at the end were pretty longwinded.
The book starts well & is nice & chatty & easy to read but about halfway through it starts getting all technical & science jargon-y & was quite hard to follow at times.
This book has some really interesting parts & does make you see the wonder of plants as opposed to just things to decorate your house with to make it look all 'jungley'. But for me, it just lost steam halfway through. Plus the testimonials were really overdone. I think a second edition is called for. If you're looking for a 'How-to' guide for house plants, this isn't it.
