I might be a little biased as to why I like this book so much. I met Brendan Wenzel at NAEYC. He was so friendly and down-to-earth; he personalized my copy of this by drawing me an elephant. No, I'm not kidding. It's like the coolest thing!

However, this book is a thing of beauty. The stone is many different things to many different creatures. Yet it never ceases to be what it is (a stone) despite everything around it changing. Honestly, this book is gorgeous both in its illustration and in its prose. ( )

This is a great book to show how the world can be explored from all angles and perspectives. It’s a simple story, but full of depth. ( )

The trick of playing with perspective and perception that enlivened They All Saw a Cat just lies there in this book doing as little as the title rock. ( )

The stone sat still for a very long time and was a home and an experience for many creatures, big and small. The stone is unchanging and in a sense reliable which can be a metaphor for people in ones life. I loved this poetic read with exquisite illustrations. ( )

A large stone sits, unchanging, unwavering, as life and time passes and creatures live among it. The soothing lines and cadence invoke consistency, reliability, constancy, unwavering resilience, and reassurance that no matter what else is going on, the stone is there, being and serving as creatures need it to be. (You can think of a parent or friend or favorite place as being your stone.) ( )
