But sometimes the most familiar paths can lead straight to danger-like at Cass's go-to diner, where new delivery guy Jung Byson wants to enlist her expertise. Jung's friend, Tim Ayers, scion of a wealthy Chicago family, has been found dead, floating in Lake Michigan near his luxury boat. And Jung is convinced there's a murderer on the loose . . . Cassandra Raines is one determined, tough, and smart investigator with a heart of gold. She irritates friends and foes alike in her laser-focused mission to get justice and accountability for victims.

When Jung Byson tells her the cops dropped the case of his friend, Tim Ayers' murder too soon she listens. At first she thinks Jung is spinning his wheels out of grief but soon she has questions of her own. She needs to handle the investigation without stepping on her former colleagues' toes. But between the cops stubbornness, and the gut feelings she gets from other people of interest Raines' professional courtesy is short-lived. She goes full-hog, gets threatened, beaten, receives a horrendous delivery confirming she is on the right track and some folks will do anything to get her off.

Exciting, energetic, fast-paced. Quick, fun read.
