The Greco-Roman moral philosophers were not concerned with the best ways to think. They were concerned with the best ways to live: how to develop and practice morality and virtue, values and character. This course introduces you to these "practical" philosophers, who represent the "missing page" of the history of philosophy. It covers the work of Cicero, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Plutarch, Epictetus, and others. Some of their names have become famous in history, but their philosophy, unfortunately, has not. This course features extensive readings by the professor from the philosophers' works. You will learn why their philosophy, originally directed toward the citizens of ancient Rome, is as valid and useful for Americans today. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
