Smell my Foot is a funny read, good for a read aloud on the carpet with students. This book is a funny story about a boy and his big foot. I would recommend this book to K-2nd grade. This book can allow students to analyze funny, abstract illustrations and practice reading skills. This book would be a good partner read. Chick, a generally smart little bird, is trying to teach Brain, a goofy human, and Spot, a hungry dog, to use proper manners. But Brain is too busy trying to get everyone to smell his(?) feet while Spot is much too preoccupied thinking about lunch. This book is quite funny; I actually found myself chuckling aloud a few times despite myself. I can imagine young children will really get a kick out of it. I do appreciate how it is essentially a 'use your manners' book but the story is so silly that it doesn't end up feeling didactic at all. The book is divided into four short chapters, which will help beginning readers feel accomplished when they are done, while also giving them good places to stop if it's feeling too difficult. What I didn't like are the illustrations. They are done in a sort of comic strip style with various panels, which is fine. They are far more cartoony than I usually like, although that works okay-ish for Chick and Spot. It is Brain's depiction that really bothers me. His legs and arms are basically just lines while his feet are absurdly large. Furthermore, he is dressed is what appears to be boxer shorts and nothing else. I could almost overlook the rest of it if he were at least given some more clothing. Perhaps I am more of a prude than I realize, but it doesn't seem super appropriate in a book for children that an adult human character is barely clothed. That all being said, I could see fans of Dog Man also liking this series. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
