This book is only three colors--black, white, and yellow. Yellow is used as a medium to convey joy. What we allow to come in. Some days are easier than others......some times we just don't have it in us.

Wow. I love this book. I don't know if children will gravitate towards it due to it's more thought provoking message and simpler illustrations. Indeed, it does feel written for an older audience. I know I could find myself within the pages. Which is what everyone wants in a picture book or any book really--to find themselves and see that others have the same thoughts as they do. ( )

This book contains lots of metaphors to convey the different types of emotions that one may feel. I think this book is a great book to read to kids to both validate their emotions but also show the importance of resilience. I would say this book is primarily targeted towards primary grade kids. ( )

The heart and all the feelings that come with it are complex and complicated, no matter how old you are. The simple text and illustrations of this book send the powerful message that we hold the power over our heart. Luyken does a great job at putting all the complex and intense feelings that one can feel with their heart into words in a way that the reader, no matter what age can enjoy and understand. The illustrations are beautiful and have pictures of hearts hidden throughout. This book reminded me a lot of the book we read on our zoom about hope. I really enjoyed this book and thought it was very cute. ( )
