After giving the first book the benefit of the doubt and because it was more an introduction to the cast this second book just hadn't enough to offer to keep me interested.
It mostly just did more of the same.
In regards to the perceived world size, this book did a bit better but overall it just felt too scripted and forced to be believable.
This book, again, suffers from very stupid bad guys and a lot of convenient coincidences.
On top of that, it started unnecessary foreshadowing via visions which almost always just hurts the story.
It seems like it just imitates a lot of things seen in similar successful books without fully understanding what those tools are meant to accomplish.
Most of the shortcomings of this book and the one before probably are only so visible to me because I have read lots of books in this genre.
I can imagine people having a blast without a lot of prior experience in the urban fantasy area but for me, it just wasn't enough. ( )

My Thoughts:
This time around, the author has added the "war of angels and demons" of the Christian faith angle to the story, which is interesting! It spiced things up! And Woggy is kinda growing on me... While still aligning the story with the series' main story arch, this book actually has a plot of it's own. Something I trully appreciated after having read a few urban fantasy books that did not. It's not thick and it's not twisty, but it is there! Kudos to this urban fantasy author!! This series is starting to really get its hooks in me! And I am happy to recommend it to all urban fantasy readers!!

More of the structures I was missing in the first novel made appearances. Some questions about order were answered by a bit character. This really filled out the world.

The characters are far more than tropes or cardboard cutouts. The plot is very complex. Some ‘birds’ from the first novel came home to roost.

Vampires appear briefly, with a little snark at ‘Twilight’.

I am going to buy the next book. Best recommendation I can give. ( )
