An Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestseller. In an unforgettable love story, a woman's impossible journey through the ages could change everything... Anne Gallagher grew up enchanted by her grandfather's stories of Ireland. Heartbroken at his death, she travels to his childhood home to spread his ashes. There, overcome with memories of the man she adored and consumed by a history she never knew, she is pulled into another time. The Ireland of 1921, teetering on the edge of war, is a dangerous place in which to awaken. But there Anne finds herself, hurt, disoriented, and under the care of Dr. Thomas Smith, guardian to a young boy who is oddly familiar. Mistaken for the boy's long-missing mother, Anne adopts her identity, convinced the woman's disappearance is connected to her own. As tensions rise, Thomas joins the struggle for Ireland's independence and Anne is drawn into the conflict beside him. Caught between history and her heart, she must decide whether she's willing to let go of the life she knew for a love she never thought she'd find. But in the end, is the choice actually hers to make?… (mais)

I listened to the audio book and the readers are phenomenal. This is a wonderful historical book about 1016-1921 Irish history, including the Easter Rising. But it is much more than a history book. A beautiful love story is woven within.
When young Anne Gallagher's parents die, she goes to live with her grandfather Owen. He speaks highly of Ireland and Anne grew up with stories of the island. Before Owen dies, he makes Anne promise to take his ashes back to his homeland of Ireland.
Once in Ireland, Anne is transported back in time to 1921 Ireland where she meets one of the most influential characters of the time. Anne soon becomes involved with the conflict.
I highly recommend this book. ( )

"What the Wind Knows" by Amy Harmon is such a magical story! It is always difficult for me to write a review of such talented authors. I do not have the talent or the eloquence to put words to my emotions. I wanted to read this book straight through but often I just had to put the book down to deal with the depth of the events and passions of the novel. From the beginning, I felt as if I was sitting by the fire on a winter's night during a blizzard, wrapped up in a down-filled comforter, and listening to the story. My favorite authors have that ability and another one has just been added to the shortlist. The story is a fantasy and it is well worth the read because of that fact. ( )

I did not want to reach the end of this perfectly delightful novel.....and just as other reviews have said.....I LOVED this book!!! Such wonderful characters and such a well-drawn out story, full of historical details. Who could not love Anne and Thomas and Eion??? Of course I want MORE.....to follow them as their life continues in the here and now. ( )

This Historical Fiction is also a book of Fantasy when a griefing Granddaughter travels back to the birthplace of her Grandfather to spread his ashes. Anne Gallagher was raised by her Grandfather after the death of her parents and her love for him made the griefing process difficult but returning to his hometown would change her life. Her Grandfather requested that his ashes be spread on the lake near his childhood home.. Anne rented a boat to take her across the lake but fog came in and suddenly she is shot.

She awaken to find herself in Ireland of 1921 where her Grandfather is a small boy and he is living with his paternal Grandmother in the home of Thomas Smith, a friend of Anne's Great Grandparents. ( )
