"Bookseller Delaney Nichols befriends a Loch Ness monster enthusiast; when he stands accused of murder she'll do whatever it takes to learn who the killer is--and whether Nessie herself is really lurking in the Scottish waters. Delaney Nichols is delighted with her life in Edinburgh, working at The Cracked Spine--a shop that specializes in hard-to-find books and artifacts. With a job she loves, and her fast approaching marriage to devastatingly handsome Scottish pub-owner Tom Shannon, Delaney's life could be straight out of a fairy tale--at least it would be, if the pastor meant to perform the wedding ceremony hadn't recently passed away. Outside the church where Delaney is searching for another reverend, she stumbles across Norval Fraser: an elderly man obsessed with the Loch Ness monster. Always attracted to the interesting and unusual, Delaney befriends Norval. But when his nephew is found dead, the police decide Norval's obsession has moved from monsters to murder. With a wedding to plan, her family arriving soon from Kansas, and the arrival of an over-the-top Texan with a wildly valuable book, Delaney's plate is full to bursting, but she can't abandon her new friend. Determined to help Norval, she sets out to learn the truth. The Loch Ness buries its secrets deeply, but Delaney is determined to dig them up--whether Nessie likes it or not" --… (mais)

I love that this book focuses on Nessie. I have always hoped that Nessie and Ogopogo would end up being real and that they are dinosaurs that managed to survive. Their myth's bring light and wonder into the world, and we could all use more wonder and light.

I was able to guess who the murderer was quite early but I still enjoyed reading the rest of the story and finding out the "why" of the crime. ( )

The Loch Ness Papers is a nice mystery about a murder and Nessie the Loch Ness Monster. The characters are all perfect. The settings are described well. It is just a nice story with no violence. Whether or not it is believable is questionable. Four stars were given in this review. ( )

This is book 4 of the A Scottish Book Mystery seies. The books need not be read in oder but I suggest it.

Delaney Nichols is panning her wedding to Tom Shannon, a tavern owner she met shortly after moving to Edinburgh from Kansas.
Delaney works at The Cracked Spine, a bookstore that specializes in rare books. Edwin, is the owner and employees are Hamlet and Rosie; Rosie has a Scottish terrier that is always in the books.
In this book, Delaney has found a new friend, a Lock Ness enthusiast, who is accused of the murder of his nephew.

I have been to Inverness where Nessie is supposed to live but did not see her on that day. I especially enjoyed this book because I could picture the area.
Another interesting read. I gave it a 5 star rating. I have listened to the audio book, for no cost, on You Tube ( )

I’m a little annoyed that I read this book; if I’d waited a week or two, I could have used it for the upcoming Halloween Bingo; it’s a perfect fit for the “Monsters” square. But I didn’t know that when I began the book, though I probably should have suspected.

This series dances on the thin edge between normal cozy mystery and paranormal. It’s always maybe this or that happened, and always plausible through other explanations.

I should have enjoyed The Loch Ness Papers more than I did; I generally enjoy the author’s writing, and I love the Loch Ness theme. But either the writing or my attention was too scattered to really get lost in the mystery. I suspect a bit of both; my attention could have been more focused, but the disparate clues were too disparate, and made a connection between the mysteries obvious. The sympathy Shelton hoped to garner for certain characters fell flat and she tried to involve too many people as possible suspects, making it impossible to keep them all as active participants in the mystery. And on top of it all, Delaney’s family is in town for her wedding. The result was a scattered story that felt chaotic and I suspect even if I was totally focused on the story, it would still be scattered and chaotic. ( )

The Loch Ness Papers is the 4th book in the Scottish Bookshop Mystery series. I enjoy this cozy series. It has a nice mix of humor and mystery. The setting is awesome and the characters are fun and quirky. This time around, book enthusiast and seller Delaney Nichols meets and befriends an elderly man who is a local expert on the Loch Ness Monster. Norval Fraser is obsessed with the monster. and has been researching it for decades since the disappearance of his father. Norval firmly believes Nessie took his father. When the old man becomes a suspect in the murder of his great-nephew, Delaney steps in to help prove his innocence.

This book is a fun read. I love the fact that the Loch Ness Monster figures into the story. Who doesn't love Nessie? Norval is an interesting character. I found myself wondering as much about his notes and information on Nessie as I did about the murder mystery. Wouldn't it be so cool to read through someone's notes and observations on a cryptozoological mystery as famous as Nessie?

I enjoyed the plot. The mystery moved along at a nice pace with plenty of suspects and sleuthing. Although the ending wasn't a big surprise for me, I liked this story from start to finish. I will definitely be reading more of this series. I love the characters and the setting.

**I voluntarily read an advance readers copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.** ( )
