This book is very funny and that is what the author intended for it to be. The author wrote each poem in the style of a famous poet. The author takes a funny approach to introducing the poet each poem is inspired by, by apologizing to the famous poet (i.e. "With apologies to William Shakespeare"). I enjoyed this poetry book. Poetry can be boring at times and the author wanted to make it fun! I think she was very successful at doing so. ( )

This book is full of funny poems that are perfect for elementary students. All the poems are based off class poems written by well-known poets, so it can help with comparing and contrasting. Students will find the poems just as funny and entertaining as I did. ( )

I read this book to a class of 4th graders and they loved it! Each page had a different poem that I believe students that young could relate to. For example: there was a poem about cleaning your bedroom and how children don't want to but their parents make them. The child tried finding something but they couldn't because their room was so messy, so they had to clean it to find it. I think students this age can relate to many of the poems in this book and I personally loved reading it to them because the illustrations are very colorful and the poems have some humor in them too, which added to the book being a fun read. I highly recommend reading this book to students!

In this poetry picture book, Shapiro takes 26 famous English and American poems and transforms them into fresh and fun verse for children.

This little book was a gem among the gazillions of children's poetry books available. The illustrations are cute and comical, but the funny sendups of some of the most popular poems in the English language are just perfect! The title poem is probably the most effectively executed (with apologies to Emily D), but another favorite is 'O Mommy, my mommy!' I enjoyed reading snippets of this to my elementary school students. They had no idea that they were getting (sort of) real literature! ( )
