Nitpicks that should have been caught by the editor: .44 Magnum rounds are not steel-jacketed. The press is the fourth estate, not the fifth. Earth rotates once every 24 hours, not days. Otherwise, it was ok. A little too heavy on the religiosity. Not a particular fan of Bronson Pinchot's cadence and emphasis when reading dialogue. I will admit as did some reviewers to racing through the book to see how the story ended. Does earth and its people survive or not? The author presents some very interesting philosophical, political and humanitarian issues as end of days approaches. The President of the U.S. (decidedly not a Trump figure) has to decide how to communicate the awful gravity facing them. I will read another Fortschen book based on my experience with this story and the favorable comments of the reviewers here. I don't like horror stories but this scenario may not be entirely implausible at some point on planet Earth. This is the best novel I have read this year. It asks the question how would the United States react to an extinction level event. Who would get the golden ticket to be allowed into prepared shelters? How would the general public respond to seeing government officials given priority to enter over those who are children? What actions would the militaries of the world take during this crisis? These and a lot more questions are examined in Forstchen's thriller. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

HTML: From the New York Times bestselling author of the smash hit One Second After series comes 48 Hours, a nail-biting and prescient thriller about a solar storm with the power to destroy the world's electrical infrastructure In forty-eight hours, the Earth will be hit by a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) from the Sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it? William R. Forstchen is at his best in 48 Hours, a tale of the resilience of American citizens when faced with a crisis. .Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
