Highlights: ✓ You get to understand some basic cosmological propositions without delving into intricate mathematical proofs (likely involving long and daunting differential equations full of partial derivatives). ✓ It covers concepts in experimental gravitational wave astronomy and the LIGO experiment. ✓ It's written in a simple and accessible language packed with pop culture references, albeit mainly targeted towards individuals from the 20th century. Downsides: ✖ Same ideas repeated over and over. ✖ Few new insights if one has already read ABHOT. Arguments are roughly the same as in previous texts written decades ago. ✖ Overly optimistic about genetic engineering. Specifically, aspects such as human intelligence don't depend on a defined gene or set of genes. Therefore, enhancing human intelligence through genome tailoring might not be feasible in the near future. This is a good introduction to some big ideas in science and technology. Hawking touches on a bunch of subjects from a super quick overview of a variety of future looking ideas, including AI, space travel, aliens, and black holes. Because it’s so brief on a lot of the topics, it wasn’t really the book for me, but I do think it would be worth it to someone who isn’t looking for the same depth I want. I did find the afterword which was a tribute from Lucy Hawking to her father pretty moving. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
