Second book in an action packed series about a young woman coming to terms with her non human heritage while working with a hot kitsune boyfriend. He's not your idea of spirit fox and she isn't exactly what you would think of when you think of "dream eater." Struggling to come to terms with a secretive father, a nosy sister and mysteries galore is all in a day's work for Koi.
I was elated to receive this book as I had recently finished the first in series. Seeing all the Japanese lore and language dropped in was another pleasure. Lincoln's word is a delight that is sure to be savored by any reader. ( )

First, let me say I was very happy to have received a giveaway copy of Black Pearl Dreaming from LibraryThing.
I enjoyed catching up with the characters from K. Bird Lincoln’s first Portland Hafu novel, Dream Eater: Koi, who discovered that her ability to see other people’s dreams is actually part of an inherited “super power”; Ken, a hunky Kitsune straight out of Japanese mythology who became Koi’s lover; and Kwaskwi, a wisecracking Native American trickster.

After flying to Japan with her father, Ken, and Kwaskwi, Koi quickly discovers that her relationship with Ken isn’t as cut-and-dry as she thought. He’s soon on a growing list of people she can’t trust. Her confused feelings add tension to a plot involving two warring factions that have different reasons for Koi and her father to use their dream eating abilities to control an imprisoned water dragon. Kwaskwi, as usual, is along to add comic relief.

The plight of the dragon is moving, the pace and secrets suspenseful, and the snippets of Japanese folklore left me hungry for more knowledge of the genre. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series! ( )

Black Pearl Dreaming is the second book of a young adult series. An urban fantasy story of a young woman who is further realizing her powers of being a Dream Eater as her father is. Although she loves her father she is starting to realize her independence and confidence in her own beliefs and path from what others want to dictate for her. Lincoln continues to use her colorful language that gets stronger in Book 2 continuing to dot Japanese language and descriptors in her work. By doing so Lincoln engages readers especially those who may not be familiar with Japanese culture and mythology. Book 2 delves deeper into the Portland Hafu world and I cannot wait to see more of this unique world in Book 3. For anyone who enjoys urban fantasies that move at a face pace I encourage you to take up this series. ( )

This has got to be one of my favorite books. I was looking to read a different type of book and was pleasantly surprised to read this anime/manga spring to life in a compelling way. The characters have depth and attitude gracefully woven together in in a complex story that would be a Netflix hit if made into a movie. ( )
