** spoiler alert ** This book is fast-paced but ultimately unsatisfying, mainly for one reason: it is full of implausibilities and head-scratching elements that bombard the reader with "What the heck?" moments. The biggest question/problem I had involved the whole premise for the bad guys chasing Elle: if the murderer was never visible on the video to begin with, why bother chasing her down? She's no threat to anybody. From there things just got sillier and sillier. How did anyone know she'd be in Las Vegas? How did the 3 bad guys know she hung out at the Pity? Elle's constant stupid mistakes bothered me too. Why did she drive by the scene of the crime? If the killer is not visible in the video, why risk her life and go back to return the camera? Why on EARTH did she go to her friend's funeral when she knew she was being hunted by the killers? Why did she trust herself with the Canadian cowboy? Why did Perry base the bad guys' actions on a non-illegal art scheme? ( )

There is just something so compelling about any Thomas Perry story. One word just takes you to the other til you get to the end. This one was particularly good. A female burglar finds a murder scene and works to unravel it. Towards the end, the story took some weird/not practical turns but by then I was sucked in way too far to care. ( )

Truthfully, I would have stopped reading this, but by the time I had made that decision, I was over halfway done. It’s a quick read. But a slow plot, with a main character that bored me. Lots of long descriptions of her breaking into place and slowly, very, very, slowly, going through the place. So slowly. And the 'scheme' that people were killed for? So very, very lame. Now that I finished the book, I'm sorry that I didn't stop when I should have. Boo. ( )

I was fortunate enough to have received a free copy from Netgalley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The book is well written, (grammatically), easy to read, and has a lot of attention to detail. It was also fairly interesting, but not particularly so. The attention to detail was very tedious, whether about the burglary profession, or the items being stolen.

The main character was also very thin - just couldn't ever feel that I really knew her, or even cared to.

You know a book is not interesting when you are happy to finish it, instead of wishing there was more. I was happy to finish this one .... ( )
