MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens. When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death--a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone--Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister's killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed--a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae....As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister's death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane--an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women--closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac's true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book--because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands....… (mais)

flemmily: Darkfever is for adults, and is both darker (violence and othersuch events) and yet fluffier (emotionally) than Glimmerglass. However, both feature plucky heroines making their way in a world that is a weird mix of fairy and human.

Before I even begin to review this book, a little backstory on how I discovered it. I found the book back in 2017 via Goodreads, well, the cover for Feversong that is. It was absolutely gorgeous and the other covers made me seem kinda weary, but that's was about it.

Here I am now, in 2019, finding out about the PNR series that is the Fever series.

Now, Darkfever took me SO long to read due to the fact that I downloaded a sample of the collection via Google Books app containing the first 8 or so books and it managed to give me a preview on the ENTIRE first book.

When the time came, that's when I decided to read it. After reading it via eread sample, I finally managed to get the Mass Market paperback of the book last Saturday.

Okay, onto some thoughts. I was originally going to give this book two stars, mainly due to the fact that I personally found the book to be quite slow, Mac as annoying, and Jericho not really all the hype that I seem to feel.

Then the 2nd half came into play and THAT'S when it slightly improved. Jericho is still a meh for me so far, but after finding out more about Mac and what she is, as well as her planning to seek out the Sinsar Dubh, it's going to be quite interesting to see how it play out for the rest of the series.

I don't mind sexual content in books, but this first book definitely had some steamy situations between Mac and the Fae that made me feel slightly uncomfortable slash awkward. Just saying.

Also, the 2nd to last chapter of this book was pretty good, I'll admit, it was cute with what Jericho did to Mac ;).

I haven't fallen head over heels for Jericho (yet), but the banter between him and Mac is quite snarky, hilarious and everything in between. Its sort of a love/hate relationship in a way.

Overall, Darkfever is 3 stars from me. It had a couple of flaws to it with its slow pace and characters at the beginning, but it picked during the 2nd half of the book. Here's the the 2nd book, Bloodfever, whenever I plan on getting that book.

Also, managed to finish this book BEFORE Valentine's Day. ( )

This was so much fun! It reminds me of cheesy tv shows like Merlin, Stargate, Lost Girl with fun adventure fighting monsters. Only with more smut although this book did not have any sex scenes. I love the slow burn between Mac and Barrons. I swoon every time he says Ms. Lane. ( )

This is the first time I have read anything by this author and I must say I like her writing style.

Mac Lane goes to Dublin after her sister Alina is murdered. What she finds out about herself and her "normal" world sends her stumbling through dark streets with even darker beings out to get her. Jericho Barrons, man of mystery and now her ally is using her to find mystical objects and prevent world wide catastrophe.

At first I will say Mac's flighty personality and obsessions with girlie clothes and all the trappings made me a little skeptical of how she was going to hold her own and become the warrior she's going to have to become. Trusts no one, only thinks of avenging her sister, never really takes in her surroundings....like Barrons said, he gave her three days before she ended up dead the way she was blundering around.

And it all started by asking a stranger about some weird thing her sister had left her a voice message about. The Sinsar Dubh...evil written a million years ago and so powerful. Now she's knee deep in shades, unseelies, death-by-sex fae and whatever Barrons is.

I like the fact that the two main characters, Ms. Lane (Mac) and Jericho Barrons, have fallen madly in love with one another or just jumped straight into bed just for the heck of it. He's trying to teach her to protect and defend herself, while getting her help sensing the magical objects they need. He somehow shows up whenever she's neck deep in trouble and has enough of a hidden side to make my curiosity want to know more about him.

I will continue on with the series just to find out more about "the Lord Master", what his plan is and just how will the petite and girlie Mac play into any of this. ( )
