First you can't judge a book by the cover because it really doesn't fit the story. This story takes place in an Other Land and has a more rustic feel than the urban leather wearing man on the cover.

Wulf Hahn is the Wolf of Braugne. He became ruler after his brother was killed and now he's determined to go after his killer. He stops at Calle to meet with the Chosen but is sent away with an emissary that is more than she seems.

Lily is the Chosen of Calle, her visions have been telling her she must make a choice between two men and that choice will pave the way for happiness or despair. Lily seems so quiet and unassuming, I loved seeing the real her come to life as she assessed Wulf and his troops and took care of her people.

On the brink of war hard choices must be made but when Wulf realized he wants so much more from Lily watching him flirt and try to charm her was so much fun. I loved this quote after he kissed her in public

"This is an advance communique to disseminate a new policy to a populace."

It's not easy being a leader and you can feel her struggle with the hard choices leaders must make and Wulf's quiet support and suggestions were poignant, as he could have been so autocratic.

Their story is short and sweet and I'm not sure how it fits in with larger arc of the Elder Races but I hope we'll get to see more of this charming couple."

I very much enjoy the Elder Race series and this novella was no exception.

Lily can see things and she’s been having dreams about two men battling. Now that Wulf has arrived on her doorstep she must choose sides. One will lead to happiness, while the other will lead to despair.

Wolf is a bad and good man wrapped up in one. He’s formidable and honorable too. Lily is the Chosen and leader of her people. I liked Lily and Wolf. Both knew the hardship of being leaders for their people and living with chooses that may not always turn out. Their chemistry together was wonderful, these two complemented each other, and their romance was enchanting.

The Chosen is a magical story full of confrontation and desire.
