List of all the Flush Deck (Wicks and Clemson classes) of American Destroyers. There were 267 of them all told. Built from 1917 to 1922, most of them missed the First World War but they formed the backbone of the US Navy's destroyer force for the next 20 years and many survived to serve in the Second World War in a variety of roles. This book includes a short history of the classes and their histories and statistics This is the 2nd, much expanded edition. (

It may be trite to characterize this book as a labor of love, but it would be incorrect to describe it otherwise.

If there has ever been such a thing in the history of the United States Navy as a typically American class of ship, the flush-deck destroyers of World War I come closest to filling the bill.
