This is a nice effort by Mr. Whipps. The volume covers all sections of restoration of the iconic Chevy trucks. All of the major sections applicable to a restoration volume are covered including selecting the right truck to start your project and progressing into details regarding bodywork and paint before touching on the major mechanicals.

Unfortunately, the mechanicals tend to get rather short shrifted in favor of the body and paint. Engine rebuilding is covered in only 10 pages. Transmission and drivetrain components get just a bit more coverage. The electrical section is very brief.

That said, the author does a nice job of covering what's needed to restore your square body truck. You just won't be able to rely on this volume as a cradle to grave reference, but most would not attempt to do so. ( )

As I prepare to do some body work on my Square Body Suburban I figured this would be a great overview of the full process of getting it back on the road.
This book goes through everything from body work and painting, to electrical and interior work. It is full of detailed pictures and descriptions. It is probably not detailed enough for someone who is new to working on vehicles, but is an awesome set of reminders and tips for folks who are comfortable wrenching.

This is a very thorough book on the square body series of Chevy truck.
Beginning with a reality check - what it will take financially to do a restoration.
Then it moves to a great background on each year of truck to help identify the differences between them. Next it goes through a restore in a methodical way, not only showing the right way to do the restoration, but showing some alternatives like using a crate engine if your original engine isn't salvageable.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a better knowledge of their Chevy truck, wants to learn more about individual components and how to upgrade the, or wants to perform an entire restoration. ( )
