New York Times best selling author Gail Carriger brings you a stand alone story set in her wildly popular Parasolverse. WEREWOLVES - The monsters left Faith ruined in the eyes of society, so now they're her only option. Rejected by her family, Faith crosses the Atlantic, looking for a marriage of convenience and revenge. But things are done differently in London. Werewolves are civilised. At least they pretend to be. AMERICANS - Backward heathens with no culture, Major Channing has never had time for any of them. But there's something special about Faith. Faith and Major Channing have a number of forces pushing them together and some internal and external that slow their joining. Not entirely drivel, but mostly. ( )

This story was charming, funny, and just utterly enjoyable. I tried to read it in sips, and ended up gulping down the whole thing. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the Parasol Protectorate series. ( )

Series Info/Source: This is the first book in the Claw and Courtship series. This is set in the Parasol Protectorate world and features characters from the original series.

Story (5/5): There is a mystery here of stolen Sundowner bullets but that definitely takes a back seat to Faith and her disgrace and mission to find a werewolf husband. Faith happens upon Major Channing when he demands to search her rock collection for the missing Sundowner bullets and from there they two can’t help but constantly irritate each other. It was a fun and charming story full of humor. It was very excellent to see Channing finally get some challenge and happiness in his life.

Characters (5/5): I loved both Faith and Channing. I have always enjoyed Major Channing as a character and was thrilled to learn more about his back story. Actually getting to see him get some happiness after his very tough past was delightful. I loved Faith just as much, with her geological tendencies and more stark masculine style. They were both an absolute treat. Carriger always does an amazing job with creating quirky and fun characters that you love from beginning to finish. I also really enjoyed the family Faith stays with in London, they were so supportive and caring.

Setting (5/5): This book mostly takes place in London and at the werewolves main residence. I always love a London setting and getting to get a deeper peek into the London werewolves abode was highly entertaining.

Writing Style (5/5): Like all of Carriger’s books this was a fun one to read. The POV switches between Faith and Channing and is full of fun and humor. Carriger’s books are always highly entertaining, witty, and just pure fun to read. I did feel like the end was a bit rushed on this one, but I still enjoyed every second of it.

My Summary (5/5): Overall this is a must read for fans of the Parasol Protectorate universe. I would especially recommend this if you enjoyed Major Channing as a character in those books and would like to learn more about him. Carriger writes wonderful steampunk romance that is full of quirky humor and is an absolute joy to read. I can’t wait for more books in this series! ( )

Another standalone novella in the Parasol Protectorate universe. Yes this can be read without having read the other books but it will give you a taste of universe and maybe get you reading more of them. Faith has been sent to London to live with distant cousins after she has been ruined in society’s eyes. The distant cousins she has been sent to don’t know what happened, but they have opened their arms and home to Faith and she starts to have a wonderful time among London society. From almost the first moment she stepped off the balloon in London she caught the eye of Major Channing of the London Pack. There is a mystery as well along with the romance that slowly blooms between them. This was a fun read but now I want more books set in America to see how things are different there. ( )
