They had learned that while the trip to World had only taken 3 subjective days, 28 years had passed on World. The same for the return trip. 28 years had gone by on Earth and the Earth had changed almost beyond recognition. And their return only added to the problems since the cure for the deadly space-borne virus they encountered on World had unexpected consequences on Earth. I was a bit concerned when with about 50 pages to go, the story didn't seem to be coming to a conclusion. Often this means one of two things, either the author is planning on a sequel or the ending will be rushed. Since this was supposed to be the conclusion of the trilogy I didn't expect a sequel. And it was a bit rushed at the end but the whole arc of the story came together at the end in a satisfactory manner. The ending certainly leaves the path open for another story. If Nancy Kress thinks there's more to be wrung out of these characters or the setting, I'll read it. This was a god read and you could probably read it as a stand-alone novel but I'd recommend you read the first two installments first.
