Humorous, surreal stories that have a strange quality which ensures re-readability. ( ) I accidentally received this book due to some kind of mix-up which resulted in me receiving The Skeleton’s Holiday instead of the book that I actually had ordered. I was allowed to keep it though and thought it was worth a try to read it. Honestly, I tried to like this novel but surrealism is just absolutely not my thing. There were a couple of stories that turned out to be kind of okay (like The Debutante and White Rabbits), because the writing was vivid and it felt like I could almost see the events happening right in front of my eyes. Yet, the other stories lacked, in my opinion, a proper structure. For me the writing seemed messy, incomplete and confusing. Furthermore, I often missed a clear theme; I felt that it was hard to grasp what the author actually wanted to convey to the reader. I really didn’t enjoy reading this book. Naturally this is partly due to me preferring to read other genres, but I think that it is also, to some extent, due to the poor quality of 5 out of the 7 short stories that make up The Skeleton’s Holiday. So unfortunately I feel it appropriate to give this novel a rating of merely 2/5. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

'Ring for your maid, and when she comes in we'll pounce upon her and tear off her face. I'll wear her face tonight instead of mine.' These dreamlike, carnivalesque fables by one of the leading lights of the Surrealist movement are masterpieces of invention and grand-guignol humour.
