A collection of poems for children with the various themes of self, family, going outside, and when it is time for bed. This exuberant celebration of poetry is an essential book for every young one's library and a gorgeous gift to be both shared and treasured. Sit back and savor a superb collection of more than sixty poems by a wide range of talented writers, from Margaret Wise Brown to Gertrude Stein, Langston Hughes to A.A. Milne. Greeting the morning, enjoying the adventures of the day, cuddling up to a cozy bedtime - these are poems that highlight the moments of a toddler's world from dawn to dusk. Carefully gathered by Jane Yolen and Andrew Fusek Peters and delightfully illustrated by Polly Dunbar, HERE'S A LITTLE POEM offers a comprehensive introduction to some remarkable poets, even as it captures a very young child's intense delight in the experiences and rituals of every new day.… (mais)

This is an amazing collection of poetry for young children. Each poem is by a different author and they're each about things that children can relate to. Some different topics are growing, bedtime, and ice cream. All of these poems have a different way of telling stories such as rhyming, repetition, and beautiful pictures that go along with the poems. My favorite poem is "Your Birthday cake" the author wrote a comedic poem by rhyming about a child that made a birthday cake out of mud for his mom. There are many other amazing poems. The way they are written help children learn new words easily and figure out the meaning of these words ( )

This book contains poems for many situations. It is a great addition to a library and contains pictures that are engaging to readers. Teachers can use this book to teach poetry to younger students and can encourage students to write their own poetry. ( )

Here’s a Little Poem; A First Book of Poems is wonderfully illustrated. The pictures are very phantasmagoric and full of vivid colors and imagery. The poem “Sugarcake Bubble” features images of cute, furry animals such as a lion, a goose, and a bear making pink, purple, red, and green cookies in the shape of stars. Another poem “Ivy Says” is about a very tall dad. The father’s legs are depicted as actual tree trunks, with green leafy shrubs. All of the images feature details that can ignite the emotions and imagination of the reader.
The book also features poems of many different types. For example, the poem “August Ice Cream Cone” by Paul B. Janeczko features two words “Lick Quick.” Another poem “As The Crow Flies” by Lesléa Newman is a longer free verse work. The differences in the poem structures allow the audience to see a variety of works and ideas.
The main point of the book is enjoying all of the aspects life has to offer. From poems about nature and the outdoors, to pets, family life, music, and even making pastries, the book offers tales of many activities and concepts. It features something for everyone! ( )
