A very quick read.....this would be a good choice for a short flight. ( ) This novella is a very easy and quick read, with almost no conflict that is usually found in Stephen King books. In fact, it's kind of nice. The weird thing that happens to the main character Scott doesn't seem bad, in fact, he even mentions that it should happen to more people. I found it to be a very positive and touching story that was kind of reduced to its bare elements, but I am glad I did not pay full price for it. Elevation by Stephen King. I had some time today and I had heard so many things about this book that I had to give it a chance. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it. We are visiting Castle Rock yet again with this one and I liked it. We're treated to a number of references, my favorite being the garage band that prepares for a gig by renaming themselves to Pennywise and the Clowns, but the odd things that happen to Scott, and more importantly, the way he deals with them... that's the heart of this story. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Stephen King wrote this as a counterpoint to the endless parade of negativity that surrounds us more and more by the day. As an example of how we should be, rather than how we are. If he did, he knocked it out of the park. Not a long read, especially by his standards, but a rewarding one. I will say the only thing I am missing is that I needed or wanted an explanation to the weight loss. I've not read your typical (?) Stephen King book. I read his book about writing and loved that but horror isn't generally my thing. All that said when this came across my desk I was intrigued. It is a quick read. It is a sweet read. It made me cry in the end. I feel like there are some layers to this I haven't yet peeled back but thats okay. I'd like to ponder over it some more. A solid read and my 2nd Stephen King! sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
"Set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine The latest from legendary master storyteller Stephen King, a riveting, extraordinarily eerie, and moving story about a man whose mysterious affliction brings a small town together--a timely, upbeat tale about finding common ground despite deep-rooted differences. Although Scott Carey doesn't look any different, he's been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn't want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know, and he trusts Doctor Bob Ellis. In the small town of Castle Rock, the setting of many of King's most iconic stories, Scott is engaged in a low grade--but escalating--battle with the lesbians next door whose dog regularly drops his business on Scott's lawn. One of the women is friendly; the other, cold as ice. Both are trying to launch a new restaurant, but the people of Castle Rock want no part of a gay married couple, and the place is in trouble. When Scott finally understands the prejudices they face-including his own--he tries to help. Unlikely alliances, the annual foot race, and the mystery of Scott's affliction bring out the best in people who have indulged the worst in themselves and others. From Stephen King, our "most precious renewable resource, like Shakespeare in the malleability of his work" (The Guardian), Elevation is an antidote to our divisive culture, as gloriously joyful (with a twinge of deep sadness) as "It's a Wonderful Life.""-- Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
