As someone who has been to the Washington coast, I know the water is both beautiful and dangerous. In her newest release, Elizabeth Goddard paints the picture of both. When Sadie Strand wakes up on a sinking boat, she has no memory of how she got there other than investigating her best friend’s death. She is rescued by the Coast Guard, and the man who pulls her out of the water is a friend from her past. Gage Sessions can’t believe Sadie—the girl who stole his heart once—has come into his life again. And though he’s determined to remain friends with her, he will also do whatever it takes to protect her from whoever is after her. Whether on land or sea, Sadie’s life is in danger. Car chases, explosions, drug dealers, and plenty of suspects kept me turning the pages. Yes, the title in itself gives you a hint of what’s going on in the story, but even that unraveled slowly enough to make me wonder exactly what was going on, who is determined to kill to keep their secret. Once again, Goddard gives readers a glimpse into an area of law enforcement (Coast Guard Investigative Services) that you may not have considered. COAST GUARD PROTECTOR Marine biologist Sadie Strand is back in her coastal hometown to prove her best friend was murdered--but searching for evidence almost costs Sadie her life. Abducted, drugged and left for dead on a sinking boat, she's barely rescued in time by Coast Guard Investigative Service special agent Gage Sessions, an old friend. Assigned to protect Sadie and connect three complicated cases, Gage risks his life time and again to make sure the woman he once loved survives. But although the handsome, guarded agent vows to protect her, someone will keep killing to ensure the truth never rises to the surface. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

I liked that the main characters had a friendship history prior to their meeting again in this book. There's also a set up that Gage has had romantic feelings for Sadie previously--though it didn't sound like she returned those feelings in the past. It does make it more believable to me that the two could fall in love and be engaged in the time frame in which this book takes place--I still think that it's a bit too soon and they probably should let the adrenaline wear off a bit before committing to a lifelong commitment like marriage--but hey, this is fiction so . . . and they're only engaged at the end of the book not married.
Other than that though, I can't really say I enjoyed the plot. Neither of the two main characters "sparked" with me. I never really grew to care enough about them to root for them as a couple. In fact, I grew tired of reading each one's thoughts about loving the other but "how I really shouldn't love" him/her.
I didn't really guess who was behind it until late in the book, and I don't think there were enough clues in the manuscript to let us know. ( )
