I became obsessed with his obsessive, discursive writing style, the way his sentences loop back on themselves to describe something several different ways. You have to give yourself to it and stop expecting the usual plot or character mechanics of most conventional fiction, but once you do, it's an exhilarating ride. He primarily rails against Austrian politics, the Catholic Church, his family, and then himself. He does reveal the machinations of his psychology and some philosophy.
