French Text It may be somewhat surprising that in addition to the author of Poil de Carottes and the passionate Journal, there was also a person of the same name born in Liège in Belgium who signed his work under the pseudonym "Draner." One of them had a true talent of the pen, the other a true talent for humor. It isn't known if they knew each other but it is certain that they had a similar spirit, and a caustic sense of observation. By the age of 30 Draner was installed in Paris where he worked very regularly for the principle satiric journals, so much in vogue at the time, such as Le Charivari, Paris-Comique, Le Journal Amusant... but his sketches also appeared in L'Illustration and Le Monde Classique. It was in Paris that he died in 1926 and now in this volume, his works have now been reprinted. These Types Militaires are masterpieces of drawing and humor: French, British, Germans, Italians, Russians, and even Chinese are captured with a pleasing realism! Draner will return to public acclaim with this new publication which truly does his drawings justice. This book will appeal to uniform buffs and also to those who like to laugh, for here is presented one who was a master of the art of caricature.… (mais)
