This book is about Temple Grandin. It tells her story about growing up with autism. She does not fit in with other children, and she gets moved to live with her Aunt. She learns to understand her learning abilities with autism. She related herself with animals and this lead to to become a scientist and she created cattle pins. This is an inspirational story for all people with disabilities. ( )

Primary; Nonfiction; Informational; Biographical; This book is a great story of a young girl with autism who does not fit in and struggles to meet developmental benchmarks. Her mother encourages her love for art and science and she goes on to earn three degrees and invent a more friendly and humane approach to farming animals. This book is great for all young kids who have dreams, especially those with autism or other disabilities. ( )

This book would be great for older primary students or intermediate students. This book is about Temple Grandin, who revolutionized human treatment for cows on farms. Grandin was born with autism and couldn't speak until the age of three, she faced immense ridicule for the way she thought and her mother sent her to spend time on her aunt's ranch. There she found her love for science and farm animals, and went one to become a great scientist and a brilliant mind in the agricultural realm. This book is helpful because it is based off of a real person and describes her life and achievements in ways that are understandable. I would use this book if I ever teach a unit on farm animals, and as a way to help students see that having a disability means that you think differently from others, it does not mean you are less than them in any way.

The Girl Who Thought in Pictures is an extraordinary story about a woman with autism named Temple Grandin. In Mosca’s writing, she includes fun facts about Temple that keep readers invested in her story. One of the most prominent themes in her book being “different, not less”. Temple grew up being told that she would never be normal, let alone become an influential spokesperson for multiple platforms. The unique mind Temple had made her to connect with animals in a different way than most individuals. This inspired Temple to construct one of the most groundbreaking inventions in animal science ever! ( )
