There are a number of excellent books on the subject of revival including "Revival" (by Lloyd-Jones), "Pentecost-Today?" (by Iain Murray) and "Revival and Revivalism" (also by Murray). Yet, of the books I have read on the subject none is more important than this one. This is a deeply practical book, which is both refreshingly honest and solidly grounded in truth. There are number of important points and lessons contained in this book that have been forgotten by the Church. Two, in particular, stand out. First, the need for reproof. Pastors and Christians must not shy away from their duty toward fellow believers who living in sin and drifting in apathy. Second, the importance of reverence. Here is a concept almost foreign to the Evangelical churches, and yet without it can we expect the revival we seek? I doubt it. This book is a must read. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
Sprague's experience of genuine revivals, his faithfulness to Biblical theology and his balanced view, eminently fitted him to write what Dr Lloyd-Jones describes as "The outstanding classic on this vital and urgently important matter." The chapters cover such themes as The Nature of a Revival, Obstacles to Revivals, Divine Agency in Revivals, General Means of Producing and Promoting Revivals, Treatment due to Awakened Sinners, Evils to be Avoided in connection with Revivals, etc. There is also a large and excellent Appendix comprising letters on revivals by various North American evangelical leaders of the last century, including Archibald Alexander, Francis Wayland, Samuel Miller, Edward Payson, Heman Humphrey, Ashbel Green, C.P. McIlvaine and Edward Dorr Griffin. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
