But I was confused or bored 75% of the time. Maybe if I had understood more of what was happening, I would have liked this story. ( ) Literary Merit: Very good Character Merit: Good Reading Level: Grades 6-8 Recommend: Yes This full-color graphic novel tells the story of John Blake and the crew of the ghost ship, the Mary Alice, as they time travel. During an appearance in the present, John Blake rescues a teenage girl, Serena, who has been knocked overboard from her father’s boat due to a sudden violent storm. Blake and Serena, with the help of a British spy and a maritime agent who has been tracking the Mary Alice, must protect the crew of the Mary Alice from an evil inventor, who wants Blake because of information he has from the past. Suspense builds throughout the novel as the evil Dahlberg and his men relentlessly pursue Blake. The illustrations depict the fast-paced plot well, especially the fight and car chase scenes and the explosion. Although several storylines intersect, the plot--even the issue of time travel--is understandable. Sometimes the reader confuses the men working for Dahlberg and the British spy because they are drawn as white men who lack distinguishing characteristics. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
