I am very pleased to have this book!

This is not what I expected! I thought that I was buying an encyclopedia of every TV and film detective (crime fighter, cop, etc.) ever made. This book is definitely not that. Therefore, I was initially very disappointed. However, maybe ....

This book does look very interesting. I think it has real possibilities. This book addresses the literary side. It is, as the title clearly states, a collection of favorite sleuths. It is twenty-eight chapters of various well know TV and movie detectives in their literary form. It has the very well known Sherlock Holmes, Mike Hammer, Miss Marple, Philip Marlowe, Perry Mason, Hercule Poirot and Ellery Queen. It has the lesser known Father Brown, Albert Campion, Arsene Lupin, Inspector Maigret, Inspector Morse and Rumpole of the Bailey. And various others. This gives me an opportunity to become exposed to these characters in their literary form. As I have said, I am very pleased to have this book.

It doesn't include everything. For me, the absence of Nero Wolfe is not a problem, since I have read all of his novels that I could get through my local library. I don't know why Elliot Ness was included. The absence of pure literary characters must be accepted. But, I would have liked for it to have included Charlie Chan, Nick and Nora Charles, James Bond, Mr. Moto, Mrs. Bradley, Brother Cadfael, Jeeves and Lord Peter Wimsey. I would of course like it to address those that I don't even know exist. I admit that it should stay limited to the short story or novelette format.

If you should know of any other good collections like this one, please let me know. Especially if they cover full novels. ( )
