Not a great book for the parent who gets stuck reading it aloud over and over, but highly popular with the toddlers who are the intended audience. After the first few dozen readings, I found the sound effects - and the book is nothing but sound effects - rather boring, and soon the workers on the page of big machines had acquired new names: Gunga Din (the pneumatic drill operator, DENGA DENGA DENGA), Harvey Wallbanger (BANGA BANGA BANG), Tom Tom the Piper's Son (the pile driver, TOM TOM TOM), Thaddeus Thud (the power shovel, THUD). 3+ stars for the affection the book inspired in my children, but be warned that acquiring it may be hazardous to an adult's sanity.
