I was expecting this to be a course that filled in my rudimentary knowledge of historical events in Africa, South America and Asia. Instead it was a big picture look at trends in the world from the neolithic revolution onward. At first I was very unhappy, since the course wasn't covering the material I was interested in. However, when we got to the 19th and 20th century and I could see how the trends that had been discussed had direct relevance for the newspaper headlines I was reading, I became very enthusiastic. If you didn't get a "big picture" view of history in school, this would be an excellent addition to your knowledge base. ( )
