While a lot of the technical details of this book went over my head, I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. I wasn't quite sure what the book was going to be about when I read it, I guess I supposed it was going to be geared more towards hobbyists, but even though it wasn't what I expected, I'm glad I read it.

The Hardware Hacker is all about open hardware and a couple of Huang's projects that he's worked on in that realm. Maybe you've never heard the term open hardware, and Huang does a great job explaining it. From the Apple II, where the schematics were made available, you could open the case and modify whatever you wanted inside; to smartphones that are essentially a black box of secrets; Huang advocates for and explains why hardware should be made free. This was really good. bunnie knows his stuff, and provides both fun stories and actionable advice. ( )
