A murderous android discovers itself in "All Systems Red", a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial intelligence. In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid -- a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot." Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.… (mais)

Okey, first things first: Murderbot is SO RELATABLE!

How can a robot be so compelling, more than a lot of humans characters out there? I love AIs and their exploration, but this one is at another level. My god, the level of relatability this characters has is beyond words.

The plot itself was also good, a cool mystery to start the saga with. The supporting characters where also good and cool, I really liked Dr. Mensah and Ratthi. The writing style was perfect for the story, fast, easy, it made things even greater!

I don't have more to say that I LOVE IT and will continue with the series very, very soon. ( )

Great novel with an interesting plot and surprisingly relatable main character. It deals with the topic of artificial intelligence between machine and person in a refreshing new way (at least for me) and wraps heavy topics into an entertaining and sometimes funny story.

It could have been a bit longer for my taste, but works great as an establishing novel for a series. I am looking forward to reading the next books in the series. ( )

A 2017 novella about a construct of materials both organic and non organic that is built by a company and either taken out on contract or owned. This construct, who refers to self as "murderbot" is on contract to this mission to a planet for research. The type of construct is a "security unit". This construct has found a way to override the governing unit and enjoys watching entertainment serials but is very shy around humans and prefers to avoid personal contact with humans. These are fun stories, perhaps not new ideas but enjoyable to read. I probably will go on with the series. ( )

I really enjoyed reading it nevertheless it could have been shorter.
Good opening, satisfying but longer than necessary middle, and a very interesting ending.
A relaxing and easy reading to pass a couple of hours but not a story which will be remember after a few days. ( )

That was really fun! A SecUnit deactivating it's governor modue, calling itself Murderbot and then... not killing anybody! It is insecure, shy, makes a lot of mistakes, admits those mistakes (to itself at least) and that's what makes it fun.

Lots of humour in this novella. ( )

But this book is sneaky. As much as you want to think this is just some lightweight little confection made of robot fights and space murder — and as much as All Systems Red wants to present itself as nothing but robot fights and space murder — Martha Wells did something really clever. She hid a delicate, nuanced and deeply, grumpily human story inside these pulp trappings, by making her murderous robot story primarily character-driven. And the character doing the driving?

Murderbot.

I could have become a mass murderer after I hacked my governor module, but then I realized I could access the combined feed of entertainment channels carried on the company satellites.

And in their corner all they had was Murderbot, who just wanted everyone to shut up and leave it alone so it could watch the entertainment feed all day.
